She enjoys the creative and collaborative process of filmmaking and was also Vice President (Programmes) of nuSTUDIOS Film Productions in 2007, where she pursued her love for films beyond its production through promoting film appreciation via film outreach platforms and programmes.
Some of her experiences in film production include producing, art direction and casting. She was also an art assistant on the set of Sejarah Singapura (2006), a short film commissioned by the National Museum of Singapore. Her directing credits include a small theatre production of Kuo Pao Kun's Lao Jiu (2004) and most recently, the short film documentary, In Our Own Words (2008), which presents an unconventional perspective on youths with renal failure. She is currently in pre-production for her new film CASHLESS.

Derek Tan

A three day crash course on “how to use the camcorder” back in secondary school started Derek on his journey in filmmaking. Digging through the library for film books, making experimental short films and teaching others how to make films was his film school.

He later joined nuSTUDIOS Film Productions in 2005, and took on the role as its President in 2007, which exposed him to a vision of not just making films but also promoting his passion to everyone.

He simply loves every aspect of the craft, taking on different roles like director of photography in Last Strangers under the Heaven (2006), to an editor in In Our Own Words (2008), and also director for two of his films Crack (2006) and Minute (2007).

He curated and produced the Singapore Shorts (first DVD compilation of Singapore short films) and Royston's Shorts DVD. Lim Jiaxuan Gillian

Gillian is probably a hermit. One who thinks deep and spends time in isolation mulling over the mysteries of life. Much time could otherwise have been put into learning the technical aspects of videography and scriptwriting yet it is this humanitarian instinct that inspires her and leads her to telling stories and filmmaking. She was introduced to filmmaking in her varsity days when she joined nuSTUDIOS Film Productions in NUS, Singapore. Made her first short film, Friday Morning (2005) and is now back on her journey to discover more stories and more lives.

Low Beng Kheng

Beng Kheng is an aimless undergraduate with a deep love for film. Since young, he has had the twisted vision that is the Singapore dream, drummed into this head; to grow up, find a job, get rich and obtain the five credentials of Singaporean success: the car, the condominium, the credit card, the cash and the career. It was only through the movies that he experienced life and the world beyond mindless cash and credit. It was also through the movies that made him broke. In a desperate search for an alternative drug, to bring the euphoria of cinematic escapism, he turned to free short film screenings. A lot of these short films sucked. He thought he could do better and has been trying to do so ever since. He is also majoring in Chemistry.

Lai Weijie

A good while back, Weijie found himself standing in the soaring heat of Botanic Gardens, standing behind a friend, who was operating a video camera, shooting another two friends, who were toying in front of the camera. To get to that stage took two weeks of planning, and that was just to come up with a messy set of scribbled notes about what everyone was supposed to do, and how things should look. Obviously, it turned out nothing like he first imagined, which was something that would change the face of film, but it got him hooked.

Shaun Oon

As a lifetime member of nuSTUDIOS since 2004, Shaun has made the transition from school and event related video-making into the production and direction of short films. Shaun has worked on various nuSTUDIOS projects like Slipper Story and SOULS. Other than his nuSTUDIOS commitments, he has also done work in the Singapore film-making industry, including his services as a production assistant in Colin Goh’s Singapore Dreaming. His appearances on screen have been few but performances always stellar and have received high praise. Even if only from himself.

Song Yizhuang

Yizhuang was a nuSTUDIOS member from 2002-2005 and graduated with a degree in Philosophy from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2005. His films explore the dark side of human nature. Some of the films he has directed include Scylla (2002) and Hedgehog's Complex (2005). He is currently teaching English in Japan.

Robert Tan

Robert is a young and idealistic teller of stories. Afflicted by melancholy and low self-esteem, he has, his whole life, depended heavily on friends and family to motivate, guide and channel his energies and has, as a result, directed only 3 films since he first discovered its magic in mid 2002.

“The Devil’s Playground” is his second attempt at visual story-telling and its awkwardness and blunt delivery is its own evidence of the fact. Unabashedly pointless and mundane, “The Devil’s Playground” reflects well his views towards Singaporean story-telling at the time the film was made.

Elizabeth Wijaya

Elizabeth is a 22 year old Malaysian top honours year student of English Literature at the National University of Singapore on an ASEAN undergraduate scholarship. Watching movies make her happy. Previously, she specialized in set design for her theatre studies “A” levels.
